Cruise Safety - Some Rules you Should Never Forget

Cruising remains one of the safest vacations available, with an outstanding record of security. In fact, when compared with the FBI's land-based crime statistics in the States, cruise passengers are much safer on board a cruise ship than ashore.
While instances of crime on board cruise ships are rare, it is important that whenever traveling to be observant of one's possessions and surroundings at all times.Cruise passengers are reminded of this, as they are in any hotel, by safety information, daily bulletins, port visit briefings and the provision of a room safe or safety deposit box.
On the other hand, when a crime occurs it may never be investigated. Prosecution mostly is left in the hands of the local port authority. Local police often tends to close a case  when the ship has left the port.
Cruise lines share the primary responsibility for shoreside and shipboard security of passengers. The Coast Guard examines all security plans and can require improvements in their security measures.
Passengers embarking on international voyages may expect to have their baggage searched or passed through screening devices before boarding. The terminal operator and cruise line have strict procedures for passenger identification and visitor control.
Passengers who wish to have friends visit the ship prior to sailing should check with the cruise line well in advance.
All these security measures are designed to prevent the introduction of unauthorized weapons and persons on the cruise ship. Finally spoken, use you common sense: A cruise ship is a small self-contained city with thousands of passengers and crew members.
Enjoy yourself but behave as you would do in a city hotel rather than on a deserted island.
